About This Site

The Wildlife Spot publishes hands-on reviews, comparisons and how-to guides for people who love watching and photographing animals. We cover binoculars, trail cameras, spotting scopes, travel tripods and smart bird feeder cameras, written for hobbyists rather than professionals.

Wildlife and Field Safety

Never look at the sun through binoculars, a spotting scope or a camera lens. Magnified sunlight can cause permanent eye damage in an instant. Keep your distance from all wild animals, use optics rather than approaching, and never feed, bait, corner or call wildlife in a way that changes its behavior or breaks local rules. Nesting birds and animals with young need extra room.

Outdoors, watch for uneven ground, snakes, ticks, heat and sudden weather, and carry water. Set tripods on stable footing so they cannot tip, and take care on ladders when mounting cameras or feeders. Only place trail cameras on land you own or have permission to use, check park and local rules first, and aim them away from neighbors. Clean feeders regularly to reduce the spread of bird disease, and handle and dispose of batteries according to their instructions. Everything here is general hobbyist information, so follow the manufacturer's instructions and the rules of the place you are visiting.
